Start on Tafelberg Road , above Cape Town . Look for the path into Platteklip Gorge . The gorge is a deep cut in the big rock wall . The steps are high and made of stone . Stop and look back often . Take water , because there is no water on the path . There is little shade , and the sun is hot in summer . Start early in the morning . Bring a coat , because the weather changes fast . The best months are October to April . These are the dry months . At the top , the mountain is flat , like a table . You can see the city , the bay and Robben Island . Fynbos grows on the mountain . You may see a dassie , a small animal that lives on the rocks . Walk to the top cable station . If the wind is calm , the cable car runs . Inside , the floor turns all the way round , so you see the whole view . But wind can close the cable car . Be ready to walk down the same path .
